Description Habitat: Variety of soil types and moisture conditions, widely distributed in Central, East and Southeast Texas, and other states.
Plant: Upright or spreading annual 5 to 16 inches tall.
Leaves: Opposite and clasping; upper leaves lanceolate; lower leaves ovate-to-elliptical; 3/4 to 1-1/2 inches long.
Inflorescence: Blossoms 1/2 to 1 inch across, with 5 bright pink (or, rarely, white) pointed petals and yellow/white at base; 5 stamens and curled anthers; two long greenish stigmas twisted together.
