Description Habitat: Low, moist ares in ditches, fencerows, edges of woodlands. Native to East Texas.
Plant: Very tall (3 to 4 feet or more), erect, smooth, leafy perennial, often in colonies.
Leaves: Large bluish-green leaves, basal and stem (alternate, clasping), elliptic to obovate, up to 8 inches long.
Inflorescence: Large composite flowers 5 inches across with 10 to 20 yellow rays around central structure up to 3 inches tall comprising hundreds of dark brown disk florets.
Bloom Period: May to June.
