Description Habitat: Moist soils in pastures, fields and other open disturbed areas, pond margins, along roadsides, open woods.
Plant: Annual with nearly erect hairy stems 4 to 20 inches long.
Leaves: Basal and lower stem leaves broadly cordate or ovate in outline, 0.8 to 2-3/8 inches long and wide overall; deeply lobed or compound into 3 lobes on petioles 1.2 to 6.3 inches long; upper stem leaves and bracts unstalked, or nearly so, 3-parted or simple.
Inflorescence: Single or a few flowers on main stem and branches, flower stalks 0.4 to 2.4 inches long,; bright yellow flowers about 1 inch across or somewhat less with 5 ovate petals, 25 to 50 stamens and 10-35 pistils; 5 reflexed, hairy, ovate sepals, less than 0.3-inch long.
Bloom Period: April to June.
