Description Habitat: Dry, rocky soils in open woodlands and along roadsides, 300 to over 5200 ft elevation.
Plant: Erect bush, 2 to 6 feet tall with hairy herbage.
Leaves: Large, heart-shaped leaves (broadly ovate with cordate base and long, pointed tip), usually 2 to 5 inches long and 4 inches wide (sometimes much larger), with toothed edges and covered with small hairs giving a velvety feel; on petioles 2-3/4 to 3-3/4 inches long. Inflorescence: Clusters of a few yellow, 5-petaled flowers, 3/4 to 1-1/2 inch across.
Bloom Period: May to November.
