Description Habitat: Dry, rocky or sandy soils; open areas in scrub, prairies, along washes, dunes and roadsides.
Plant: Perennial herbs or shrubs with erect to decumbent stems covered with woolly hairs, up to 4 or more ft. long.
Leaves: Broadly ovate to elliptic up to 3-1/8 inches long and 1-5/8 inches wide on petioles up to 3/4-inch long; margins are shallowly crenate-dentate; surfaces with conspicuous veins and covered with pubescent or woolly hairs.
Inflorescence: Small flowers in tight rounded clusters about 1/2-inch wide arising from leaf axils or on peduncles, each cluster with many (up to ~30) flowers with only a few open at one time; blossoms about 1/4-inch wide with 5 yellow petals and stamens.
Blooming Period: Winter and spring.
