Description Habitat: Dry calcareous soils in fields and on hillsides.
Plant: Upright perennial 8 to 24 inches tall, multiple leafy stems from base.
Leaves: Alternate dark green stem leaves, narrowly elliptic to lanceolate with small teeth along edges; prominent mid vein.
Inflorescence: Terminal spike 1-1/4 to 3-1/2 inches long with many small yellowish-green male and female flowers.
Bloom Period: April and May.
