Description Habitat: Rocky, gravelly sandy or limestone soils in open areas along roadsides, flats, grasslands and shrublands.
Plant: Small perennial growing in tufts 4 to 8 inches tall.
Leaves: Spirally-arranged leaves with one pair of folded linear or narrowly lanceolate leaflets, each 3/4 to 2 inches long with pointed tips.
Inflorescence: Single yellow flowers 1 inch or less across on pedicels 4 to 6 inches long; 5 elliptic petals of unequal length with obvious veins; 10 stamens (the upper three much smaller) with inflated, light brown pods; hairy, rounded sepals less than 3/8-inch long.
Bloom Period: April to June.
