Description Habitat: Desert habitat, flats, washes, disturbed areas below 5,000 ft.
Plant: Large deciduous shrub in Big Bend, up to 6 feet high; much-branched, heavily armed woody stems with very sharp recurved thorns.
Leaves: Alternate, bipinnately-compound leaves, 1 to 3 pinnae, each with 3 to 7 pairs of light green leaflets about 1/4 inch long, obovate to narrowly oblong.
Inflorescence: Creamy white bottlebrush flower heads about 3/4-inch across and 2 to 6 times as long with many very small flowers, each with 5 light yellow petals and many yellowish stamens (the “bristles” of the bottle brush).
Bloom Period: Spring or following rains.
