Description Habitat: Drier areas on soil and rock (generally calcareous), occasionally on tree roots.
General Description: Mat-forming plants in patches or sprawling turf, green above, brown below. Stems branching irregularly to 1.6 inches long. Densely-arranged leaves spreading when moist and strongly contorted when dry (as in the photos here); 3 to 5 mm long.
