Description Habitat: Rocky soils on slopes and in canyons or washes; 1,000-4,000 ft.
Plant: Perennial vine with slender, branched, climbing or twining stems 8 to 48 inches long; herbage with pubescent, hooked hairs.
Leaves: Alternate, trifoliolate leaves with leaflets that are ovate-triangular in outline generally with an oblong center portion and two side lobes, overall 3/4 to 2-3/4 inches long, and the same or half as wide.
Inflorescence: One to 4 small pale purple to pinkish pea-like blossoms in racemes up to 4 inches long arising from leaf nodes; each blossom about 1/2-inch across with a wide banner, two lateral petals, and the keel petals fused and twisted two or three times to form a short spiral.
Bloom Period: August to November.
Fruit: Slightly curved, narrow pod 1 to 1-3/8 inches long and 1/4-inch wide; slightly hairy.
