Description Habitat: Open areas in fields, meadows and roadsides.
Plant: Erect perennial 8 to 32 inches tall; usually multiple smooth stems from base, light green to bluish green.
Leaves: Opposite near base, becoming alternate above, narrowly lanceolate to oblanceolate with pointed awl-shaped tips; erect to appressed against the stem.
Inflorescence: Erect, elongated panicles atop stems; broadly funnel-shaped flowers about 1/2-inch across, with 5 yellow petals, 5 stamens, and a pistil; 5 light green to bluish green, lanceolate sepals, about half as long as the petals.
Bloom Period: May to August.
