Description Habitat: Various soils in disturbed areas along roadsides and trails.
Plant: Erect annual 12 to 24 inches tall, branching stem.
Leaves: Oblong to lanceolate leaves 3/8 to 3/4-inch long, smooth or covered with very small, fine hairs.
Inflorescence: Deep red flowers in terminal cluster with 5 petals each up to 1 inch long and stamens tipped with anthers bearing blue pollen; sepals 1/4 to 3/8-inch long, lanceolate, smooth or conspicuously ciliate margins.
Bloom Period: May to September.
