| Description | Habitat: Rocky, calcareous (limestone) or clayey soils; shaded cliffs, stream banks and canyons. Plant: Perennial, stems erect near the base becoming trailing, 20 to 60 inches long, branched over much of the length, covered with appressed pubescent hairs. Leaves: Compound, firm-textured leaves palmately-divided with 3 mostly elliptic leaflets 1/2 to 1 inch long and 1/4 to 3/8-inch wide with the terminal leaflet larger than the lateral ones; upper surfaces have very small appressed hairs and noticeable net-like veins; lower surfaces gray-green with soft hairs; tips are obtuse with a short tip (mucronate). Inflorescence: Racemes from axils with 3 to 8 small (less than 1/2-inch long) pea-like flowers; each flower with 5 pink petals: erect upper banner having dark pink/lavender area at base, two smaller lateral petals and center keel enclosing the stamens and pistil.
