| Description | Habitat:  Dry, rocky soils in washes, canyons, slopes, brushlands, woodlands and flats; 3,000 to 7,000 ft. Plant: Perennial subshrub, with spreading to erect stems; up to 30 inches tall and 48 inches wide; stems with woolly or thin, cottony hairs, or smooth. Leaves: Clusters at base and along stems of small oblanceolate to broadly elliptic leaves, up to 0.6 inches long and 0.4 inches wide; surface usually woolly. Inflorescence: Clusters of a few short-stalked very small white to pink or rose flowers in racemes 2 to 12 inches long; each flower with 6 ruffled petal-like tepals that have a broad, brownish-reddish-pink stripe in the centers; stamens are protruding. Bloom Period: July to September.
