Description Habitat: Dry soils along roadsides, disturbed areas grasslands, open woodlands and fields; from 3,000 to 7,000 ft.
Plant: Erect to spreading, much-branched annual, 4 to 28 inches tall; smooth or slightly hairy stems.
Leaves: Lower leaves opposite, becoming alternate above; blades are 3/4 to 2 inches long and once or twice pinnately-divided into narrowly linear segments; surfaces irregularly dotted with translucent or orange oil glands.
Inflorescence: Numerous composite flower heads, solitary or in clusters of 2 or 3; 5 to 8 inconspicous yellow to orange ray florets and 12 to 20 yellowish disk florets in the center; 4 to 9 gland-dotted linear calyx bractlets subtend the blossoms; bell-shaped or turbinate involucre has oval-oblanceolate, gland-dotted phyllaries in a series of 2 layers.
Bloom Period: August to October.
