Description Habitat: Usually in somewhat moist soils in prairies, grasslands, woodland openings and streambanks.
Plant: Upright or sprawling annual, 1 to 2 feet tall; numerous branches.
Leaves: Short, thin, opposite, linear leaves, spreading or vertical; lower ones up to 1-3/4 inches long and 1/3-inch wide; 1/2 to 1-inch long above.
Inflorescence: Pink flowers on short pedicels 1/16 to 1/8-inch long; 5 lobes; 1 inch or less across; long calyx lobes triangular-lanceolate and pointed.
Bloom Period: September to October.
