Description | Habitat: Dry slopes and canyons, fields, roadside ditches. Plant: Open, bushy much-branched perennial, 3 feet tall in sunny areas to 6 feet in shade; growing in colonies. Leaves: Ovate, alternate or opposite, usually about 3 inches, but may be 1 to 6 inches long; edges may be smooth or shallowly dentate. Inflorescence: Arrays of 3 to 9 composite flower heads 3/4 to 1-1/4 inches across, each with 10 to 14 yellow rays, and many yellow disk florets in the center. Blooming Period: May to September. Description | Habitat: Rocky soils in desert areas, canyons. Plant: Open perennial, 2 to 5 feet tall, slender stalks with solitary flower heads. Leaves: Leaves either shallow or deeply-lobed, sessile, with 3 to 9 linear lobes, less than 3/4-inch to more than 4 inches long; short, thin hairs on surfaces, glandular underneath. Inflorescence: Single compound blossoms with 13 to 18 yellow, deeply veined ray florets and more than 100 yellow-brown to golden disk florets; involucre with narrow, linear, spreading phyllaries in a series of 3.
