Description Habitat: Open areas, sandy soils.
Plant: Upright to sprawling perennial, one to many-branched, wiry stems up to 2 feet long.
Leaves: Alternate composite leaves spaced out along stems, each with three narrowly-elliptic leaflets 1/2 to 1-1/2 inches long with entire, hairy margins.
Inflorescence: Small (~3/8-inch across) yellow flowers growing singly from leaf axils and in terminal clusters of one to a few on short pedicels; pea-like flowers have two yellow to yellow-orange upright banners with orange veins and two wings enclosing the keel.
Bloom Period: April to November.
