Description | Habitat: Widely distributed in various soils and habitats. Plant: Tall, upright perennial to 7 feet tall, numerous stems, branched in flowering portion. Leaves: Numerous, dull green, hairy leaves crowded along the stems, oblanceolate 3-3/4 to 6 inches long, with toothed edges. Inflorescence: Many (100 to 1200 or more) composite flower heads in large loose panicular clusters, each blossom 1/4-inch across with 8-13 rays and 3 to 6 disk flowers; blossoms along on one side of the branches. Description |
Habitat: Caliche soils in dry, open areas and along roadsides. Plant: Upright, unbranched perennial with one to several stems, 8 to 24 inches high. Leaves: Narrowly spatulate-ovate to oblanceolate stem leaves 1 to 3 inches long, densely covered with small hairs. Inflorescence: Several to a large number (~300) of small yellow composite flower heads in large generally one-sided clusters, each blossom about 1/2-inch across with 5 to 10 rays and 3 to 10 disk florets. Habitat: Sandy or gravelly soils in open areas and woodlands. Plant: Erect perennial 20 inches to 5 ft. tall; few to several leafy rigid stems branched in flowering portion. Leaves: Alternate, sessile narrowly ovate to elliptic stem leaves 1-1/2 to 2-3/4 inches long with rough surfaces; edges rough, entire or with a few small teeth. Inflorescence: Many composite yellow flower heads in congested clusters along upper stems, each blossom about 1/2-inch across with 7 to 9 rays and 10 to 16 disk florets; involucres often sticky with glandular hairs.
