Description |
Habitat: Dry, sandy, rocky soil in open areas, prairies, brush, hillsides. Plant: Upright/sprawling grayish bushy perennial up to 16 inches tall; many stems branched in upper portions. Leaves: Numerous hairy leaves crowded on plant stems, oblanceolate to linear, 3/4 to 1-1/4 inches long. Inflorescence: Composite flower heads up to 1 inch across, solitary or a few in corymbs, curling up at night, 10-22 yellow rays and 22-40 yellow disk florets in the center. Description |
Habitat: Sandy soils and granite outcrops. Plant: Erect or sprawling perennial 8 to 16 inches tall; multiple brittle, hairy stems with branches near top. Leaves: Hairy-glandular, alternate leaves, 1/2 to 1-1/2 inches long; lower oblanceolate to spatulate and early deciduous; middle and upper leaves mostly linear. Inflorescence: Composite terminal flower heads 3/4 to 1-1/4 inch across subtended by small, linear leaves; 15 to 35 yellow rays and 23 to 55 yellow disk florets in the centers. Description |
Habitat: Sandy soils in disturbed areas, roadsides, prairies, rangelands. Plant: Erect or widely sprawling annual usually 1 to 3 feet tall; single hairy, green stem with branches near top. Leaves: Curly upper leaves, alternate, clasping, ovate to lanceolate and up to 2-3/4 inches long; the margins are flat or undulate and coarsely serrate or entire; the surfaces are sparsely to moderately stiff-hairy and somewhat to densely glandular. Lower leaves usually fall off by flowering time. Inflorescence: Composite flower heads atop each branch, 5/8 to 1-inch across, in corymbo-paniculiform arrays, 15 to 35 yellow rays and 25 to 60 yellow disk florets in the center.
