Description Habitat: Dry soils, disturbed areas, fence rows. Widely distributed.
Plant: Erect annual, widely branching 1-1/2 to 8 feet tall, rough, hairy stems.
Leaves: Hairy, alternate, ovate leaves 2-1/2 to 10 inches long and nearly as wide on long petioles (stalks); cordate bases.
Inflorescence: Bright yellow composite flower heads up to 4 inches across with 17 to 30 rays surrounding brown central disk florets.
Bloom Period: May to October.

Description Habitat: Dry areas in prairies or moist areas along streams or in ditches.
Plant: Erect perennial, single or multiple leafy unbranched stems 1 to 6 feet tall.
Leaves: Alternate, lanceolate leaves pointed at both ends, usually 2 to 4 inches long, but can be longer; edges are entire (not lobed or toothed).
Inflorescence: Bright yellow composite flower heads 1-1/2 to 3 inches across with 10 to 25 rays surrounding yellow central disk florets.
Bloom Period: September and October.
