| Description | Habitat: Sandy loam and calcareous soils in disturbed areas, plains, prairies and hillsides. Plant: Erect or sprawling annual 4 to 20 inches tall; one to several stems, few branches; aromatic; smooth or hairy foliage. Leaves: Bluish-green, alternate leaves along stems; lower leaves are spatulate to oblanceolate with narrow bases, sessile and up to 4 inches long; midstem leaves are ovate, up to 2 inches long, and clasping; no leaves on upper portions of stems; long-hairy margins. Inflorescence: Solitary composite flowers 1-1/2 inches across with 8 to 10 rays with 3 or 4 notches at tips, and numerous disk florets; disk becoming dome shaped; 8 long, green, narrowly elliptic outer phyllaries. Bloom Period: February to July.
