Description Habitat: Dry rocky or gravelly sites; sand, clay, limestone, granite, often in oak or oak-juniper shrubland.
Plant: Low-growing, clump-forming perennial with multiple fine, hairy stems 3 to 16 inches tall.
Leaves: Basal leaves up to 3 inches long, hairy, oblanceolate, entire, coarsely-toothed or deeply-lobed; stem leaves 3/8 to over 1 inch long, hairy, narrowly oblong, linear or oblanceolate, extremely narrow at base.
Inflorescence: Small blossoms 1/2 to 3/4-inch across, 24 to 65 (or up to 170) white ray flowers, yellow disk florets.
Bloom Period: Spring, usually.

Description Habitat: Variable soil conditions, usually moist loam.
Plant: Erect short-lived perennial, 8 to 30 inches tall; stems and leaves usually with spreading hairs.
Leaves: Basal leaves 1 to 4 inches long, narrow to broadly oblanceolate or obovate, may be pinnately-lobed or have coarsely toothed edges; stem leaves smaller and are clasping, with oblanceolate blades with toothed edges.
Inflorescence: Several flowers in clusters, heads 1/2 to 3/4-inch across, many (150-250) thin thread-like ray petals, white, sometimes pink-tinged; nodding flower buds before blooming.
Bloom Period: March to May.

Description Habitat: Open, loamy soils.
Plant: Erect short-lived perennial, somewhat hairy stems, 12 to 28 inches tall.
Leaves: Basal leaves spatulate to linear, 2 to 6 inches long and often slightly notched; stem leaves are petiolate, smaller, lanceolate to linear; surfaces may be smooth or slightly hairy; edges may have a few teeth.
Inflorescence: Several to many flowers in clusters, each head 1 inch across, 50-100 white ray petals (fewer than E. philadelphicus).
Bloom Period: April to June.
