| Description | Habitat: Gravelly or rocky soils, dry slopes and flats from 2,000-6,500 ft, generally from West Texas and Big Bend to the Panhandle. Plant: Low shrub 2 to 3 feet tall with many crooked, tangled, unarmed woody stems. Leaves: Alternate, odd-pinnately-compound leaves 1/4 to 1 inch long with 7 or 9 very small, thick leaflets, each less than 1/8-inch long, often folded; smooth upper surfaces, gland-dotted beneath. Inflorescence: Terminal clusters of 2 to 10 pea-like blossoms, each 1/2-inch long or less; feather-like, gray/white calyx lobes; corolla with rose-pink to purple wings and keel and yellow/white banner. | Description |
Habitat: Dry, rocky areas, roadsides. Plant: Showy (when in bloom), open, rounded shrub, 1 to 3 feet tall; light gray to straw-colored, striate stems. Leaves: Alternate, odd-pinnately-compound leaves 1/4 to 1 inch long with 9 to 17 very small obovate leaflets, each 1/8 to 1/3-inch long; may have a notched tip; smooth upper surfaces, gland-dotted beneath. Inflorescence: Short terminal spikes of up to 30 rose pink pea-like blossoms, each 1/2-inch long or less; calyx lobes do not have feathery plumes like D. formosa .
