Description Habitat: Dry-to-wet sites, spreading along stream banks, preferring open conditions but also persisting in shade.
Plant: Medium-size tree, 20 to 40 feet tall; light brown, fairly smooth bark.
Leaves: Doubly-compound alternate leaves 5 to 8 inches long; 20-30 pairs of oblong leaflets, each 3/8 to 5/8-inch long.
Inflorescence: Terminal panicles of showy, fragrant pink flowers, about 1 inch across resembling pom-poms.
Bloom Period: Spring.
