Description Habitat: Various types of soil but generally in rocky, gravelly or caliche soils in fields, pastures, streamsides and woodlands.
Plant: Colony-forming, low, spreading or upright perennial, with stems up to 12 inches long but normally growing only 2 to 5 inches tall; stems with scattered, spreading hairs.
Leaves: Opposite, nearly sessile leaves with ovate to oval blades, usually 1/4 to 1/2-inch long but may be up to 1-5/8 inches long and 3/4-inch wide; margins and veins with spreading hairs.
Inflorescence: Single or a few pink to lavender blossoms about one inch across at branch tips or arising from leaf axils; corollas are two-lipped with a narrow upper lip curved backward and a very broad lower lip with three deep lobes; middle lobe with purple-dotted white splotch in the center; relatively long, white, hairy corolla tube.
Bloom Period: April to October.
